Last week it was jazz festival in Voronezh. We had many guests-musicians from another countries. Here is Jeffrey Young - wonderful blues singer and piano player from USA. I really proud of my acquaintance with him. So, he presented to me his album, and now I presenting to him painting made in Photoshop.

Three is a company

Here is illustration for the third chapter of "The Lord of the Rings". Frodo, Sam and Pippin have their first night out of home. Yes, those who never red the book doesn't know that at the beginning of their journey it was only three hobbits, and they met Merry only after few days at the border of the Shire.

Hamsters

Here are drawings I made for my good friends. They play Rock-n-Roll and their group called "Theater of Illusions". Last weekend they presented their first album and I made illustrations for it.

Idea was that in word "Homo Sapiens" part "Homo" means hamster (in Russian language hamster is "Homa"). And people who lead consumer lifestyle are like hamsters. So, I made for them these images.

He doesn't have powerful magic, as his brethren. But he's got something more - wisdom of millennium. Living such a long life, he always learning from nature it's great principles and always finding something new for himself.

Two days ago I've got my prize for victory in contest of young talents "Cultpohod". It was wonderful reader "ASUS Ee Note". Best surprise for me was the fact that I can not only read book with this stuff, but also make sketches in it! Now I don't need to have pencils and pens with me, only this device. And after it I can copy all my sketches on PC very quickly and continue to work with it.

Another Tolkien-inspired sketch. For this time it is Lorien - golden forest, home of high elves, one of the most beautiful places in Middle-Earth.

A Day in Steppe

My new toon was made for "Cultpohod" contest. It took place in Divnogor'e - national park in Southern part of Russia. Theme of contest was "The Great Steppe". So I made concept of this cartoon and was victorious. Now I completed it and in 17'th of September it will be the rewarding of winners and presentation of their completed works.

Nord Ent-Druid

Northern kind of this creature. His life is not easy because he always needs to cope with icy wind and frost. But therefore he got great force of Runes - magic that he can use as well as nature power.

Ren, "Pirates of Dark Water"

May be somebody remember this wonderful cartoon series in the beginning of 90-th? It was also nice game on Genesis. This is the main character, Ren, brave adventurer, who seeking treasures in the seas of Dark Water.

Wood Spirits

I came back home for a week and made this art creating a character named Spirit of Wood. It's kind of a trickster who making some kind of bad jokes with people in forest.

Here are few ways I can imagine him. First one - classic satyr, like in old Disney "Fantasia". Second and third have kind of wild power, they looking not as friendly as first one, I think.

Ent-Druid

I have exams in university since the beginning of June. So don't have enough time for even sketching. But I trying to cope with it, so tomorrow I will have the last exam and after it - absolute freedom for two month!

So it may happens that these two pictures are last for the summer - I suppose that I gonna travel much this time!

First - the Photoshop painting of the fantasy Ent-Druid. He casts some healing or growing spell, I think.

And this sketch I made few month ago. It is elven ambassador on the reception of the dwarf's King.

Illustrations for calendar

In December I shown my sketches with rabbit for 2011-calendar in newspaper. Now I will post illustrations I made for each month. Ideas for pictures came to Chief Editor and she just told me what she wants to see. In every month she chosen two out-of-the-way holidays and I tried to show them with this rabbit-character.

December - sports day and Anti-Corruption day.

November - rural women day, boss day.

September - day of struggle against war toy, day of smile.

July - programmer's day, fisher's day.

June - day of desert, day of finances.

May - day of shopping, day of exchange.

April - gypsy's day, secretary day.

March - pet day, accountant day.

February - swamp day.

January - hugs day, day of straw.

Father and son

Here's a two great musicians who had concert in Voronezh yesterday. Nickolay Vintskevich and Leonid Vinthkevich are playing really great jazz! It's kind of family tradition for them.

Elf-scout

I tried to draw this elf in the style of American Indians. That's why I added to him amulets and feathers and made lot of brown shades.

Banjo pigs

With the help of Shane Lewis I founded very interesting blog: artists are dueling in drawing pigs with banjo. And I thought it could be interesting for me to take part in it. I thought that it could be funny to use stereotypes. So, you can see fat American pig with banjo and hamburger, and alcohol-drinkin Russian pig in cap with ear flaps and with balalaika.

Defenders of the Doriath

It took long to draw this picture. I was inspired mostly by Tolkien's "Silmarillion".

Oprichnik

An oprichnik was a member of an organization established by Tsar Ivan the Terrible to govern the division of Russia known as the Oprichnina (1565-1572). They dressed in black garb, similar to a monastic habit, and bore the strange insignia of a severed dog's head (to sniff out treason and the enemies of the Tsar) and a broom (to sweep them away). The dog's head was also symbolic of "nipping at the heels of the Tsar's enemies." They were sometimes called the "Tsar's Dogs" on account of their loyalty to him. They also rode black horses in order to inspire greater terror.
